In 2004 Officer Heideman was the School Resource Officer for Milford Junior High and he organized the first Junior Police Academy in the Township. The first class graduated on January 14, 2004
The Junior Police Academy gives young students the opportunity to learn more about the profession of policing in both a classroom and hands on learning environment. Junior Police Academy classes are conducted each academic school year.

The Junior Police Academy (JCPA), was originated by the National Association of Veteran Police Officers (NAVPO), and is currently being taught in over 2,000 locations throughout the United States.
